Objective: To explore the serial mediating roles of negative emotion and sleep quality problem in the association between parental phubbing and adolescents' self-aggression. Methods: A sample of 782 middle school students in Henan Province were surveyed with the Parental Phubbing Scale, the the PHQ-4, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Scale, and the Self-Aggression subscale of the Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire. Results:(1) Correlation analysis showed that parental phubbing, negative emotion, sleep quality problem and self-aggression were significantly and positively correlated with each another.(2) Multiple mediation modeling indicated that parental phubbing did not directly affect adolescents' self-aggression, but could indirectly affect it through three pathways, namely, separate mediating effect of negative emotion, separate mediating effect of sleep quality problems, and serial mediating effect of negative emotion and sleep quality problems. Conclusion: Negative emotion and sleep quality problem exert a serial mediating effect between parental phubbing and adolescents' self-aggression.
