In the 1980s,the proposition that "students are the subject of education" sparked widespread attention, discussion and research in the educational field. In 1992, Wang Daojun and Guo Wenan put forward the subject education theory. Over the past 30 years, the researchers have experienced a difficult process of proposing, developing and constructing the theory. Guided by Marxism, and rooted in China's educational practice, the theory was used to carry out educational experiments to promote the "free and all-round development of human beings," thus becoming a pedagogical theory that embodied the spirit of the era and Chinese characteristics. Today, as socialism with Chinese characteristics has stepped into a new era, the theory needs to take the pulse of the development in the new era, and promote human subjectivity to nurture a new generation of young people.
